The Balm in Gilead works through Black churches to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in the African American community and to support those infected with, and affected by, HIV/AIDS. The Balm in Gilead They provide churches, public agencies and community organizations with training, networking and education. A number of national and global observances are held annually to help us understand and fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The Department of Health and Human Services is using all of its resources to combat the disease, and one way it is doing so is by supporting these observances, which help raise awareness and spread information about HIV/AIDS. National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) is an annual campaign produced by the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA-US) to encourage at-risk individuals to receive voluntary HIV counseling and testing. NAPWA distributes campaign kits to community groups and health departments of all sizes to help create NHTD campaigns and events targeting their local communities. Founded in 1983, the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA-US) is the oldest coalition of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world and the oldest U.S. national AIDS organization. The history of the National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) dates back to 1999. NBHAAD’s seeks to get individuals tested, educated, and involved in HIV prevention activities. The National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day The CCBC assisted with leadership development of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs),established and linked networks, built community prevention infrastructure, promoted technical assistance among CBOs and raised awareness of African-American communities.
